2014 - 2015 ... What a long winter!!

Doves in snow

Downy and Carolina share ... sort of

chipmunk tracks

squirrel tracks

Fox tracks ... notice the perfect "registration" on the straight-line tracks

The Fox stopped to check something out under the shrub

is it a squirrel or a meatloaf?

vole tracks, revealed by the melt
and, not surprisingly, when it came out to grab some seeds, it squeaked and ran back into the tunnels!

Ecology visiting Lake Wallace, October 2014

Ah, a field trip within walking distance ...

have gear, will explore

BHS students aren't the only ones exploring

waders, they'll get you a lot closer to the action

sure looks like he's walking on water, but not to worry ... he's on the submerged dock footing

Fall color

now that's one small caddisfly larva

using the tangent gauge and artists' thumb to estimate tree height

nothing quite like a game of knots to end off the trip!

knot, unknotted

the image is a bit blurry, but this is one of the more unusual dragonfly larvae

The Hickory Tussock Moth caterpillar, in its natural environment and treated with respect

Yeah, gotta love New England in late Summer!!

A limpet gets comfortable on a golf ball ...

... and decides it can share with a leech (see limpet as a "blemish" on the right side of the golf ball)

... we would love to know what this thing is!

Exploration, data collection and appreciation

We know the water's low when we can see the dock footing!
